I am an Economics PHD student with an interest in video games. In addition to enjoying playing them, I believe there are many interesting issues in the field of game design that can be analyzed using economics. There might also be some economic issues that video games provide the perfect natural experiments for.
The purpose of this blog is to discuss video game design from the perspective of an economist. Posts will range from musings on general design issues, to thought provoking in game experiences, to real world questions that video games could help shed light on. There will be some posts on physical games as well, like Magic: the Gathering and Settlers of Catan, along with many, many nerd and geek culture references.
